Built in WW2, this intriguing building utilised innovative technology to train anti-aircraft gunners. Long before digital virtual reality was invented, moving images projected onto the inside of the Dome taught trainess how to shoot down enemy aircraft successfully. Nearly 80 years later, a visit to the Dome offers a unique opportunity to journey back in time and experience what life was like for those who served at RAF Langham. Try your hand at shooting down enemy aircraft onscreen. Film Shows. Picnic under our Spitfire in the Memorial Gardens (always open). A Scheduled Ancient Monument and one of only 6 Domes remaining in the UK. Our mission is to reveal the significance of the Dome and RAF Langham in the defence of Britain during WW2.
Absolutely Amazing and so fascinating. The informational displays are brilliant as to are the films shown throughout the day. The volunteers are friendly and informative and will provide you with any information and answer any questions you have. It's only a small space but there is so much there and it has such an impact from the second you walk in. I really enjoyed it and speaking with the volunteers about the Dome and its history along with hearing about plans for the future was delightful and I will definitely be keeping tabs to see how things progress. There are many events at The Dome throughout the year which the website will tell you about. Well worth the drive there and if you have a picnic the lawned area with picnic tables is ideal. Highly recommended.
A fabulous place to visit! Extremely knowledgeable staff who are very friendly and welcoming. Fascinating history I had no prior knowledge of and very interactive presentations and displays. Definitely worth a visit for a couple of hours and if the weather is nice, take a picnic as the picnic benches are wonderful. The spitfire replica is a fabulous addition and the stories of the men and women that served (and some of those who lost their lives) are poignant and interesting. Highly recommend visiting.
What a hidden little place to visit. Like it says "small building, big story". I would definitely recommend going to this little gem of a place to anyone & I'm also looking forward to visiting it again. The staff are so friendly & answer any questions in detail. A place not to be missed.
Very interesting and informative,on very many levels. Something to engage with all age groups. Brings part of our history to life. Very friendly and informative staff (volunteers). Compact shop, well stocked with prices to suit all pockets. Refreshments available and outside seating for the sunny days. The full size spitfire replica is a great attraction on its own. Exceedingly inexpensive by today's standards. Well worth a visit. Could not recommend strongly enough!. A visit is time well spent.
Fun day at Langham Dome. Wonderful vibes, stalls, memorabilia, costumes and a really educational museum at the centre. Recommend going if you've never been before. Not sure you would need to go more than once, but it was interesting.
Fantastic museum. Well worth a visit. Learnt things about gunnery training that was developed during the Second World War. The only one left in the UK that tells the story of what they did.
