Laphroaig, pronounced "La-froyg", is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the remote island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Our remarkable story began over 200 years ago with the vision and determination of two brothers: Donald and Alexander Johnston, who founded Laphroaig in 1815.
Visiting Laphroaig Distillery Just visited the Laphroaig Distillery on Islay! The walk from the ferry along the cycle path was amazing, with flowers lining the way and the fresh sea breeze in the air. As we approached, the distinctive smoky scent of Laphroaig whisky filled the air. The distillery's idyllic seaside setting made the experience even more special. If you're on Islay, make sure to stop by! About Islay: Islay, known as the 'Queen of the Hebrides' because of its fertile land and green pastures, is the southernmost of the Inner Hebrides islands, off the west coast of Scotland. Along with the neighbouring island of Jura, it's known for its whisky. Numerous distilleries produce the island's characteristically peaty single malts.
I only visited the shop and bar area for tasting. So my review does not include any tours or features of the distillery. The shop is typical and there you will find all of the merchandise you would expect (clothing, whisky glasses, bottles, etc.). In the bar area, tables were set up for parties to sit down and enjoy a glass or two. You can go straight to the bar and place an order for a single dram or a tasting flight of various whiskies. Prices range from PS3 and up. They also serve complimentary tea and coffee. The staff was very friendly a d helpful.
Did the Uisge tour. Worth the PS150. Toured the distillery, hiked on the Laphroaig land and saw the water source, and then did the tasting. Saoirse was a great tour guide. She's funny, friendly, enthusiastic, and full of knowledge. We were very lucky to run into the person filling up the casks and he even allowed us to dip our finger and taste!
We did a tour and tasting at Laphroaig Distillery and had a great time. We had 3 or 4 drams of whiskey and everything was delicious. We got to see a lot of the distilling process and areas of the working distillery. The views by the water were beautiful and great to enjoy a dram of whiskey by.
Considering it's the top reason we chose to visit Scotland, and one we traveled all the way from Kansas city to enjoy, this experience did not disappoint. From the whisky to the staff, to the coziness of the tasting room and cleanliness of the restrooms, everything was above and beyond expectations. Complimentary coffee and tea were provided at a nice side table for customers to enjoy. Crisps, oatcakes, and cheese all available for purchase. Staff was hospitable, welcoming and did not made you feel like a local. Customers ranged from golfers to cyclists to just plane tourists (us), and all were welcome. The tasting room offered a variety of seating including leather chairs to relax and sink into while you taste your way through the smooth and smokey samples. I will definitely be coming back and hope to do the triple tour with the bikes, that many had mentioned while on the island. Thank you Laphroaig for making our trip to Scotland such an enjoyable experience!
Rented bikes to go along the three distillery trail with the 1st stop at Laphroaig. The have a nice little museum you can walk around with your dram. They also have coffee which was nice in the morning. I got the distillery exclusive flight which was very very good. I even got to check out my 1 SF plot of land I aquired when I bought a bottle years ago. Loved it!
