Leeds Castle's Bird of Prey Centre houses birds from a variety of different species, from our smallest Burrowing Owl to our largest, a Russian Steppe Eagle. Every day (weather permitting) the birds are on public display on the weathering ground and in their aviaries. Each bird has an information sign showing their name, species, age, origin and what they like to eat. The Bird of Prey Centre is located behind the Maze.
My husband and I loved seeing the birds throughout our two day stay at Leeds Castle. The staff is knowledgeable and the birds are amazing!
The staff were so very informative. It was so interesting learning about the birds and their personalitys. Pretty neat that they actually let them fly around the property and do whatever birds do. They didn't have the little show, since the weather wasn't great. We did get to meet some of the birds. My kids loved the whole interaction and being able to pet the birds. Great exhibit to check out while visiting Leeds.
Very informative as well as entertaining. There is nothing more unpredictable then children and animals and these birds are the same. It all adds to the show. A lady explained what the birds were and how they hunted etc. In the meantime two trainers and handlers had the birds fly amongst the audience. This gave every the chance to see the birds close up and flying. The birds are free to fly away if they choose to do so, but were happy to fly, feed and be put back in their cages. They were magnificent. After the show, it was encouraged to approach the trainers and ask questions. I wondered if it was ok to use owls in the day as I thought they were nocturnal but I was told it depends on their eye colour when they sleep. The gentleman was very informative. The show lasted 30 minutes but you can view the birds before and after the show.
VERY BAD way of treating the animals. These 2 innocent birds had their legs tied with a short rope so they cannot fly at all, all they can do is move their wings. Absolutely heartbreaking!! These people are abusing the animals, they could give them a cage at least. The birds deserve better.
We did the half day bird of prey experience, and I wish we had time for a full day. We got to fly 3 owls and a Harris Hawk. It was a once in a lifetime experience, and you can tell the volunteers and staff are very passionate about what they do. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
Outdoors. Enough seating when I was there. They really put up a show and tell nice to know things about the birds used. Interesting for children but grownups too.
