Iconic 11th-century castle with family-friendly tours focusing on architecture, history & more.
I visited early in the morning so it wasn't open to the public yet. I was able to walk around the grounds and enjoy the unimpeded atmosphere. There was a soccer ball that was lost in a thicket of bushes near a garden. I was going to navigate the hill to retrieve it but it looked dangerous and I thought better of it.
I really enjoyed my visit here many years ago when I was 19!
If you are a fan of historic places, you'll love it here. In the photos it's not the Castle, but St.Mary de Castro Church which is nearby.
Great historical place. It's definitely worth the visit, if you get a chance to visit the Heritage Sundays on the last Sunday of the month. Or even to the ghost tour.
A beautiful spot in the city
It as now been taken over by DMU so there is only certain days you can get in but it is still a fantastic place to walk round the gardens and if you are a photographer you can get some amazing shots from the outside AWESOME
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
