This museum showcases the history and heritage of Leigh, a town in Greater Manchester, through exhibits and interactive displays. The centre features a collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents that tell the story of Leigh's industrial, social, and cultural past. Visitors can explore the town's history from the Industrial Revolution to the present day, including its textile industry, coal mining, and transport heritage. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and events, making it a vibrant hub for the local community.
Second visit today to this lovely, interesting museum and learnt even more about Leigh's history. Volunteers were so friendly and really informative. I'm going to visit again a couple of more times with both sets of my grandchildren so they can see the fisherman's cottage as it would be late 19th c, learn about smuggling, the navy - Napoleonic wars I think and the small boats who rushed to Dunkirk in WW2. A must visit if in the old town
Such a charming must-see visit to Leigh, extremely blue sunny skies, yummy ice cream and lovely volunteer Pat at the Heritage Centre Museum... already looking forward to a return visit!
Loved it. Very interesting. Great host who knew everything about the history and smugglers at leigh on sea. Old fishing house great too.
Popped in for a quick visit and was impressed by the building and its contents. Set up as a cottage. Only small but informative. And free!
Lovely little centre with very friendly informative host. Plenty of Nic nacs & great historical pieces & narrative. Authentic refurbishment of typical cottage furniture. Recommended. Just walk in.
A lovely little informative museum of an era now lost. This is a free museum open to all and shows the layout of an old fisherman's cottage where he and his family lived. The rooms are set up as they would have been with original fittings and furniture. Take a step back in time and enjoy this little museum as you stroll through Leigh and have a pint in the local rub-a-dub and remember how difficult things were back in the day.
