Lennox Castle is a 15th-century tower house situated in Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The castle features a rectangular tower with a sloping roof, surrounded by a courtyard and a curtain wall. It has a rich history, having been involved in the Wars of Scottish Independence and the Rough Wooing, and has been owned by several prominent Scottish families, including the Earls of Lennox and the Dukes of Albany. The castle's architecture is a mix of medieval and Renaissance styles, with ornate stone carvings, turrets, and battlements. It is now a scheduled ancient monument and a Category A listed building, and is open to the public for guided tours.
Nice for a walk, shame it's in such a poor condition, views are great. I would say you needs to be steady on your feet as entry of huge chunks of fallen bricks, stones, etc around. Not recommended for visiting with small children due to above. Take extra safety when walking around. Castle itself is fenced but there are few hole uou can sneak through.
Lovely walk from parking near Celtic training ground. Castle its self would have been splendid in its day....now very decayed but still very intriguing. Pity it's been tarred by abuse of residents when they were institutionalised here.
Spectacular ruined castle slowly reclaimed back by nature. Charming and eerie at the same time, it hides dark secrets behind its beautiful architecture. Prithee, do not take the road leading to the castle as it is private. If you are brave or foolish and you wish to approach it, park your car in the nearby residential area and follow the footpath for 25 minutes. You will not miss it!
Stunning bit of history nestled in the woods up the hills. Stunning view point about a further 10 min walk from the castle Castle is covered in glass from where people have been drinking. Otherwise a cool bit of history! Take the Thomas Muir trail along the river and up the hill through the trees to the castle, great walk for the dog!
Absolutely amazing castle but not very safe anymore
I wanted to experience some of the less touristy castles. This one isn't posted or well advertised. It's not maintained and has a fence around it because it's in such bad decay. Nevertheless, it has some interesting history you need to read up on.
