This ancient stone circle, situated in the heart of the Kilmartin Glen, is one of Scotland's most impressive and mysterious monuments. The circle consists of 13 stones, the tallest of which stands at over 4.7 meters, surrounded by a ring of earth and stone that is believed to have been built around 3000 BC. The site is steeped in history and folklore, with many theories surrounding its original purpose, from astronomical observatory to ceremonial center. Visitors can walk among the stones, taking in the eerie atmosphere and marveling at the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the Neolithic people who built this incredible structure.
One of only three places on the Stocks Reservoir circular where there is somewhere official to sit. The memorial trees are all around and you get a good view over the reservoir (until the memorial trees mature).
One of the most serene places I've ever been.
