This tiny island off the coast of Scotland is home to a picturesque 19th-century lighthouse, surrounded by rugged cliffs, rocky shores, and crashing waves. The island's remote location and harsh weather conditions make it a challenging but rewarding destination for adventurous travelers.
The lighthouse on the island works in tandem with the one on land at nearby Mirren's Shore to mark the alignment of the navigable channel in the River Clyde. Ships coming down the channel must keep the two lighthouses aligned to ensure that they remain within the channel. That's why the one at Mirren's shore is taller than the one on the island, so that it is not obscured by it. See the accompanying photo which shows both lighthouses and the channel beyond. Both lighthouses were stripped to the bare metal and repainted in 2017/18. The one on the island previously had "DEAD SLOW" written on the downstream side.
A cute lighthouse just off the coast. Not what comes to mind when think of a traditional lighthouse because it was so small. Stunning views across the water, and a good place to spend 15 minutes away from the world.
It is a quiet, amazing place to get relaxed and enjoy the sunset while you can hear the ocean musics sounds incredible. This place is unbelievably cool.
