Lime Tree Observatory is an astronomical observatory and education centre situated on the Eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It benefits from dark skies and very little light pollution. It is open to the public for pre arranged events or private bookings. LTO is run by volunteers, and so we regret that you can't turn up on spec without making a booking first.
Really enjoyable experience for myself and my two teenage girls. The presentation was a 'spooky' theme with it being close to Halloween. Halloween is definitely NOT our thing, but actually the presentation was still very interesting and the theme in no way distracted from the subject of fascinating stars, planets and constellations. The two hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable. The session was interactive with the opportunity to ask questions. We went during the day, so we only spent time in the planetarium and not the Observatory, but I would love to return on a night time event to experience this too. The place has free parking, is wheelchair accessible and is based in beautiful large gardens.
What a great evening! Hugely enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides to the universe! The all-new planetarium means this is a terrific place to see the stars whatever the weather. We were fantastically lucky to have a clear, bright sky. And now we've seen stars 2.3 million light years away. Thank you Chris and Martin. We'll be back!
Had a visit here to see Dark side of the dome,,, me and my girlfriend traveled down from Scotland to see the show,, absolutely awesome, well worth the trip. The guys who are in charge of the place are brilliant. We arrived early and got a tour around the full site, The stone circle and the roundhouse are amazing. We will definitely be going back again for a visit. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience! I had been looking for a nearby planetarium for a long time and was very pleasantly surprised with the Lime Tree Observatory. Knowledgeable and welcoming hosts, a fabulous view of the (luckily clear) sky and a great planetarium show. Would highly recommend
What a fantastic time we all had at the Observatory. Thank you to The Team for a very informative evening, it's a magical place and so interesting. I'm just sorry it was cloudy and we couldn't see through the telescope, I'd heard it was brilliant. We're so lucky to have this fabulous place so near to us.
We were absolutely bowled over as soon as we entered the planetarium and the presentation was superb. Highly recommend this but part of me wants to keep quiet as it might become overbooked! We were camping as a group in the field and this really made our stay there special.
