This 11th-century castle is situated on a hill overlooking the city of Lincoln, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The castle's imposing walls and towers are a testament to its rich history, having served as a royal residence, a military stronghold, and even a prison. Visitors can explore the castle's grand halls, chapels, and battlements, and see the Magna Carta, one of the most significant documents in English history, which is housed in the castle's David P. J. Davies Archives. The castle's grounds also feature a Victorian-era prison, which now serves as a museum, and the remains of a Roman settlement.
First visit to the castle and grounds. Very interesting place to visit. The staff were very helpful and informative. I enjoyed walking around the castle walls and looking out over the views of Lincoln. The Victorian prison inside the walls gave an insight into a prisoner's life.
Great place to visit. Our guide on the walking tour was Daniel Phillips. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the castle and was a great communicator. The prison was well worth a visit. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Recommended definitely worth a visit.
Beautiful place to see. 6h was not enough time to enjoy the day at the castle. The prison have so much History to tell. The guide people were so friendly and happy to explain more of what happened last. Please go and pay a visit to this beautiful place.
