Lindores Abbey is considered by many to be the spiritual home of Scotch Whisky, laying claim to the earliest written reference made to the drink, in the Exchequer Rolls of 1494. In 2017 a new distillery was built in the grounds of the ancient Abbey, and distillation commenced once again at the end of that year. The distillery is open for distillery tours and pre-booked refreshments. | Sip responsibly
We had a very good stay here. Although we didn't find our favorite whiskey of the trip, we still felt very welcome. We had a great tour and a super informative tasting. It is a pretty new distillery but I am sure that there will be some very good whiskies coming from there in the future.
loved the tour through the distillery as well as the included tasting - learned a lot! very interesting history and beautifully built building :) the passion those people have for what they're doing mirrors in every detail - from the interior to the knowledge the guide had etc. highly recommend!! after the tour you should definitely stroll through the ruins of the old abbey.
Great tour and apothecary experience! John was patient and answered all our questions. I'm not a big whisky drinker but it was still an awesome experience to learn about the history of the monastery and how whisky is so carefully made.
Really enjoyed our tour here, this wasn't out first distillery visit by a long shot, but was definitely something unique and engaging compared to a lot of others. Plenty of history and interesting information and of course the distillery itself was great to look around, as was the guided tasting at the end. Some distillery exclusives in the shop too which is a bonus!
We really enjoyed our visit to Lindores Distillery. Our guide, Ronnie, was both fascinating and funny, and thus the visit was really captivating. The distillery has an unique place in Scottish whiskey history (no spoil, you'll have to go visit to find out ;)) so it's a must go ! Would love to come back again, and I wish I'll be able to find your products in France. Thanks for everything ! Plus: they're dog friendly
Dog friendly Lindores Abbey Whiskey Distillery is incredible and well worth the visit!! We are staying at Duns on Holiday from Norfolk, and we went here due to being dog friendly. Staff were very friendly and approachable on our arrival. We booked our tickets in store. PS15 per adult for the tour or free to look around the shop. We were early, so we had a walk around the Abbey having a read of the books and information in the Abbey and a look at the shop. We also had a drink whilst we waited for the tour. The tour guide Helen was knowledgeable, friendly, approachable, and informative. She gave us the history as well as a breakdown of how the whiskey is made. We got to walk around the distillery and see each part of the process. The dogs were allowed on the tour with us. After the tour, we had 2 of their own brands to try. I took mine home as I was the designated driver, and mine was given in a little bag with two shots to take home. My husband had his during the tour with everyone , and he thoroughly enjoyed being a Whiskey fan! We purchased two bottles to take home with us. We were also asked if our dogs could have a photo to add to the doggy wall of fame. We are very pleased they are on the wall! The toilets were clean and tidy. Free to use. Plenty of parking. Clean environment. Can't miss as a Scottish dig statue outside. Honestly, it was a highlight of our holiday! Thank you to all the staff, especially when our dogs barked loudly!!
