This ancient woodland is a haven for wildlife, with a diverse range of flora and fauna thriving within its boundaries. The woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells in the spring, and the trees are adorned with moss and lichen, giving the area a mystical feel. A network of winding paths and clearings invites exploration, and the woodland's tranquility makes it an ideal spot for relaxation and contemplation.
A modest and recently planted (1990s) Woodland Trust Wood - give it another 50-100 years! However it links into an older wood, ancient country lanes and pleasant walks by deep streams of the Sussex High Weald.
Cute little wood, very small on its own but as it's quite out the way it's usually pretty quiet and there's plenty of space for half a dozen cars (when parked properly). The roads around it are so quiet you can easily add a few onto the end of the walk to make it longer. If you follow the footpath through the woods, out the other side and past the farm, you end up back on the county road the car park is on and get a good 50mins/ 1 hr walk. It's a proper farm though so dogs on leads (as they should be) when going past the sheep.
On Wadhurst clay the paths are very slippery when wet. Sadly Ash dieback is ruining the most successful trees, and uncontrolled squirrels have wrecked the oaks, maples and other trees. The result is expensively created scrub, and a disappointment to anyone who understands forestry. A 1-hectare wood adjacent to the south was established at nil net cost by planting Norway spruce and Douglas fir Christmas trees, and the gaps have been seeded with alder, willow, etc, while occasional remaining DF give structure and amenity.
Would live to see more bins so that we can see less litter everywhere.
Very wet at present but dogs loved it.
Beautiful and secluded
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Hiking
Good for kids
Kid-friendly hikes
Dogs allowed
