This 19th-century hospital, built in 1865, is a testament to the philanthropy of the local quarry owners who funded its construction to provide medical care to their workers. The hospital's Gothic Revival architecture features a striking façade with pointed arches, turrets, and a prominent clock tower. Its interior boasts a grand staircase, ornate plasterwork, and large windows that flood the wards with natural light. The hospital's historic significance is matched by its picturesque setting, nestled in the foothills of the Carneddau mountains in northwest Wales.
Spectacular place with a nice view over the lake. Iconic building which was dedicated as a old quarry men hospital. Just a few mins walk from the parking place for National slate museum. Nicely arranged museum which has a great history and some corner stones in early health care. Lot of valuable, historic medical equipment on display. Well worth a visit and enjoy the scenic view too.
Bit of a walk from llanberis but well worth it for the views at the top, the museum itself was educational and even had realistic smells, lots of videos and signage to explain what happened in the hospital
We've just been today. It's open until 16:30h. It's worth it for the view and the museum itself. Very interesting history and artifacts. You can learn how life was during the years the quarry was open. So interesting stories about the health workers that were there and the patients. Also the tools and facilities there. I so recommend it.
Stunning building set in amazing area.
Great little museum. Well worth the walk up to look around, although opening times are a little bit variable by all accounts. There was a sandwich board up next to the information kiosk at the car park saying when it was open.
Closed on my visit, (Wed 27 April '22) but can still see and read a good amount through the windows. Loads of history around the place and really cool to see.
