One of my favourite places in the world. Its always kept so clean. If you go there at night, around 7ish, you will find the quietest spot on earth, in the ruins, looking up at the stars. It's a long journey from the dam to the castle. But it's worth it.

A lovely place full of atmosphere. The nearby gorge is a must visit if you are thinking of visiting. Nice little cafe which is a family business. Great ruins of a polygonal Castle which had to be moved from the island at the middle of the picturesque Loch. In my minds eye, I see the beautiful world that was here lung ago. A beautiful rainforest teeming with life adjacent to a loch and hills full of wild foul and all manner of herbivores and fish. It is still beautiful nowadays. The ancestors saw and thrived in a paradise that we can only imagine now.
Well worth a visit if you get the opportunity. You could easily spend the day at Loch Doon just watching the water and the hills all around. The castle was sadly gated off when we visited so no chance to look around inside the structure as other review pictures have shown. Hopefully the next time we come along it will be made safe once more. The Craiglea walk from the carpark is well worth the effort to get to the top, the panoramic views do not disappoint. There are a number of benches on the way up to stop and rest as well as some large boulders that can be used as seats.
