This observation tower in the heart of England's Lake District National Park offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. The tower's unique design features a series of interconnected wooden platforms that rise 40 meters into the air, providing a thrilling experience for visitors of all ages. On a clear day, it's possible to see all the way to the Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines from the top platform. Interactive exhibits and displays inside the tower tell the story of the Lake District's rich history, geology, and wildlife, while a café and gift shop provide a relaxing spot to refuel and pick up souvenirs.
This is a beautiful spot and when we went there there was no one else around at all, perhaps partly because it was a bit wet. Our only company was four very friendly goats which followed us around and some very timid sheep that kept well out of our way. The Look Out itself is no longer fully intact - several of the mirrored panels are missing, revealing the wood underneath. I wouldn't be surprised if what's left of it doesn't last much longer. Despite this, it's really worth visiting because the location, a little peninsula between Loch Doine and Loch Voil, is so gorgeous, especially down at the far end near the channel that connects the two lochs. There is parking space for a couple of cars by the entrance to the field but apparently you can also park across the road at the nearby Monachyle Hotel; I don't know if they charge for parking.
This in is a bit of an oddity but well worth the effort! Other reviews point you to the correct postcode and website for this attraction which was really helpful. Parking is at the Hotel and is clearly signposted ( see pics) Turn left out of the hotel and then watch out for the 'mirrored box' sign. The box is situated down the pictured track and visible from the road if you look hard enough. The box was damaged when we visited but this didn't spoil the pics or views. As others have said, the single track road to get there is an adventure in itself and on the way back we dropped into Rob Roy's grave too (not literally)
It is a short walk from the road to the Mirror Box. I sat down and had a coffee and doughnut while I enjoyed the view of Loch Voil. Awesome spot to chill and be in the moment.
Beautiful place with outstanding views. Mirror shed is really fun thing to do some photos. Road to get there is magical .
