Lopwell Dam is a disused dam located in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, England. The dam was constructed in the 1920s to supply water to the nearby city of Derby. It is a concrete gravity dam, 24 meters high and 120 meters long, impounding the River Wye to create a reservoir. The dam is surrounded by picturesque countryside and is a popular spot for walkers and nature lovers.
Lovely peaceful place, several walks from the car park. If you head downstream from the dam towards Plymouth, there's some old lead mine works about 2 miles down
Lovely place to visit, it's tidal so you need to be a bit careful but it's nice to go for a stroll and enjoy a day out. There are no facilities at the site but I am pretty sure the are some amenities a short drive away. I would say if you have older children and you wanted to have a picnic this isn't a bad place to go.
A beautiful location full of birds. It's tidal and you can walk across to the other side when it's low. It's grown in popularity recently, so the car park normally has at least a few other people in. There's a cafe here but I've never seen it open and there is currently no public toilets there.
Beautiful place to visit, see the weir and walk across on the narrow stone walkway and up a path besides the woods and estuary. But the great cafe that was here is Permanently closed as the sign says. I hope it opens again. Car park still open. The still water here makes it a good place to canoe, several people were using inflatabe canoes and having a good time.
Great place to walk with dogs, beauty full wild nature.
Great place for a swim, not after rainfall though. It's tidal so do look at tide times before setting off. Tucked out the way, really good and calm water for paddle boarding :)
