Boutique hotel in a 14th-century castle with lavish period decor, elegant rooms & fine dining.
Just a short distance from the centre of Chester-le-Street, in a beautiful setting. We had a courtyard bedroom which was in a quiet area. The whole castle is beautiful with a real sense of history. All the staff were first rate and nothing was too much. We used the restaurant in the evening and the meal and service were exceptional. We will definitely be returning.
What a beautiful castle in a stunning location. Our room was very nice. A comfortable bed and a shower room with an undecided tap. The cold tap decided not to work on a couple of occasions but if we turned the shower on and off the tap worked . A great choice offered for breakfast and lovely staff. The plants and flowers outside were attended to by Brian and they were all so very pretty. This is a fantastic lovely for a wedding. The photos would be outstanding! We so enjoyed our stay - that's enough of me waffling on..
Picked Lumley Castle as somewhere special and different for our honeymoon and it lived up to expectations. Bedroom in the courtyard was very comfortable and clean. Public rooms in the castle are tasteful and grand loved exploring the castle and grounds. We stayed in a B&B basis to give ourselves option but ate in the Black Knight restaurant one of the evenings and had afternoon tea another day. All meals were excellent and the staff are friendly and atmosphere was relaxed. Recommend Lumley Castle and we will definitely visit again
Most amazing hotel ever! Booked for our silver wedding and was greated with an anniversary card at reception. We had a state room on the top floor with four poster bed. I cannot fault the hotel, the staff or the food. Everything was just perfect. The breakfasts were great, lots of choice with a hot selection too. We dined in the hotel and the food was great After the meal we were given a lovely anniversary dessert. The extras made our stay all the better!
Loved this a beautiful location and great inside and out. We didn't stay in the main body of the castle which was a little disappointing bit when we asked all rooms were fully booked up so we weren't able to book into the castle however you can walk around and access all the castle. There is plenty of parking around the castles surroundings. We was in hope of finding some kind of haunting/paranormal after hearing that the castle falls under one of Britain's most haunted. However most we seen were some orbs flying around. The bar is 24hours for those that want it you might want bank loan if you plan been in there 24hours as drink and food are pricey. We didn't book in for evening meal as when we went to ask the time slots left weren't suited to us so we got a share platter whilst in the library bar was OK for a snack but not a meal so we got a takeaway delivered when we finished drinking. The breakfast you book when checking in and you get to select a time between 8 and 10.30 which we thought was excellent and managed to get a sleep in. Our breakfast was at 10.15 there's a cold buffet to start then you can choose from the hot menu. We both chose full English minus black pudding but we didn't receive our toast and a hash brown would of made a nice addition the plate was oversized for what was thrown on there. For some reason two couples who came to breakfast after us and ordered the same were served before us which we found odd. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would book again and will be following to see if any events are coming up.
We stayed at Lumley Castle on 18th and 19th August to celebrate a special birthday. Lovely venue but a very disappointing stay. ||1) We returned at 3.15 to find out room had not been made up having been asked the day before if we wanted it serviced (when we also booked a 7.30 breakfast). I went to reception and was told that the policy is to service the rooms before 4pm. When the member of staff arrived she asked us what we wanted done! Surely housekeeping have a system for this. The bin was emptied, the bed pulled up (cushions still on floor), we didn't need the towels changed but wanted the floor mopped. That was it, 'room serviced'.||2) We had my birthday dinner in the restaurant. The dish my husband wanted was served with chickpeas which he doesn't like so he asked if he could change them for something else. The reply was 'yes' but there would be an additional charge which I queried, but 'no' we would have to pay an additional amount. He had a different dish. ||3) Leaving the restaurant we asked for the slip to sign for the bill to be charged to our room. This wasn't possible as we hadn't been given a card when we checked in. ||4) My son called and told me he had sent an email to the hotel on the previous Thursday asking if he could arrange for flowers or a bottle of bubbly to be left in our room. He didn't hear back from the hotel.||5) On our way back to our room I recounted all the above to the man at reception and told him how disappointed I was in the standard of a 4* hotel. He made a note by to pass on to the hotel manager. We thought someone might contact us before we left but nearly a week later and no-one has bothered to respond. ||On the plus side - lots of attractive flowers around the building and the breakfast was alright.
