A turf and timber Roman fort near Coventry | Open during most Coventry School Holidays. It's A.D. 60; the Iceni of East Anglia led by the legendary Boudica have rebelled against Roman rule, and have just been defeated in a terrible battle fought somewhere in the Midlands. As a result the Romans are building a series of fortifications across the Midlands including the Lunt... Come and explore this partially-reconstructed timber fort . Stand on the ramparts, explore the exhibition in the granary and imagine yourself training horses in the gyrus - a feature not found anywhere else in the Roman Empire. Please check our website for opening times.
What a fab place! There is a great hands on collection in the main building and we came along on the Roman Living History day. Great activities and really entertaining. The staff were so lovely with the kids. Highly recommend!
Participated in the Roman Festival. Beautiful organisation and a well run event. Grand time had by all.
This place held a very special place in my heart since I was kid in year 4 all those years ago. So thinking to myself I bring my entire tribe with me for festival weekend. Still a fantastic day out was had by all including our little one. Great re-enactments and activities. You must try on the armour the romans wore it was glorious. From period knitting and cooking to pottery made the same as the romans did. It was fantastic
Lunt Roman Fort is a partially reconstructed timber fort with a unique circular training area for horses, a rebuilt granary, timber gateway and fort ramparts. The fort is only open during select school holidays where they run fantastic events for families. This has so far been one of our cheapest days out during the school holidays and it was brilliant. You'd be looking at spending 2 hours or so there. You'll first be welcomed by three guides dressed and in character as Romans. There are lots of learning opportunities, chances to try on Roman costumes, have a closer look at the shields and weapons the Roman's would have used. You can explore the rest of the artifacts found on site within the museum and our boy had the chance to make his own clay horse too, similar to what Roman children would play with, but the activities do change regularly. You'll get to go outside and have some games with the guides and end with a big battle against them in the 'Gyrus' cavalry training ring, which everyone loved. The guides that work there were extremely knowledgeable, engaging and just all round brilliant with the children. The cost? Adults PS4.63, child PS3.83 Children under 3 are free. You must prebook your tickets. It's worth noting the fort is not open on weekends and bank holidays. They only open at certain times throughout the school holidays so check their website prior to booking. Other info free parking there is no food or drink sold on site so take a picnic if wanting to eat Toilets on-site including an adapted toilet, but no baby change The fort is wheelchair and buggy accessible throughout
We went on a re-enactment weekend. It was a good family day out!! Crazy family drill which has to be seen to be believed. Worth looking out for these events. Well done everyone.
