Lydd Town Museum is a local museum for Lydd and Romney Marsh. The 1890 Merryweather manual fire engine is the ONLY fire engine in the world housed in the original building built to house it in 1890. The unique beach cart housed in the extension is also the only cart in the world built for use on the shingle beach at Dungeness. The landau carriage, used to take the Club Day queen around Lydd on the third Saturday in June and horse bus used to carry Army officers from the train station to the army camp are also in the extension. There is a joinery and carpenters shop and blacksmith forge exhibited with tools used in Lydd in by-gone days. Plus a king's coronation exhibit. A library of photos, parish magazines, maps and journals.
A wonderful insight of Lydd's past with very helpful volunteers. (Donations accepted gladly). Those born in Lydd will enjoy the nostalgia whilst others will be fascinated by the many artefacts on display including a horse drawn bus and Landau (used for the Lydd Day Queen). Look out for the shingle cart. Thank you for the interesting discussions.
