Martinhoe Cross, Woody Bay Station, Parracombe, Barnstaple EX31 4RA
Description
Originally opened in 1898, and closed in 1935; what you can see today at Woody Bay is just the beginning of an exciting project to rebuild one of the world's most famous and picturesque narrow gauge railways; the legendary Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. This initial section allows our visitors to experience a taste of what will one day become one of the ultimate narrow gauge treasures of the world as once again you can travel by train along the original route above the delightful Heddon Valley near Parracombe in Exmoor's National Park on the longest closed section of railway line to have ever been reopened solely through volunteer effort.

Such a great project. Take the steam-powered railway and experience a slice of the past! We loved our afternoon on the train. So much that we went twice in one day. Top tip: travel first class as you get luxurious blue velvet seats. A well-run attraction by very friendly and enthusiastic volunteers. Great experience.

A lovely trip (1 mile each way) on a most beautiful railway through the Devon Countryside. Child free, adults not expensive. Your ticket is a Rover so you can travel as often as you want in the day.

Lovely little railway station with a traditional steam train. They have a lovely litte woodland walk only 5-10mins, tea room, little shopa nd regular train rides what makes it better is national trust members get 20% off tickets prices. The price you pay for the ticket does seem abit much as not a long train ride but there are plans to make the track longer and open more areas. You do also get 10% off the food in the station pub if you show the brochure .

What an amazing place! Volunteers are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Our kids (aged 1, 4 & 11) thoroughly enjoyed, and so did us adults! Lovely little nature/forest walk to wander around too. Cafe was nice, coffee and cake with lots of options and catered for allergies/vegan options. Highly recommend for a couple of hours out :)

Great fun for families day out with children (under 14 is free). You can see a beautiful county side scenery from the window. The carriage is retro style, everything manual operates. There is a cafe at Woody bay station. Free parking.

What a pleasant experience!!! Surprisingly busy for it's location!!! Narrow gauge and the line is short (20min return journey) but the views are phenomenal!!! Staff are passionate about the railway and a great tea room once you've been on the train. Your ticket does allow multiple trips and they have a great gift shop aswell. Do not expect a long train ride but anybody who enjoys steam will still really appreciate it!!!
