This observatory on the Kintyre Peninsula offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding coastline, as well as a chance to spot an array of seabirds, including gannets, guillemots, and puffins. The observatory's unique location allows visitors to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures, and knowledgeable staff are on hand to provide information and insights into the lives of these incredible birds.
What a fabulous observatory & the two volunteers that we met there today were warm, welcoming & very knowledgeable about the nature in the area. They couldn't have made us feel more welcomed! Thank you so much & we will definitely be returning
Went here 18 years ago and loved it. There were monitors and cameras showing the wild life. This time it was all locked up and we actually saw very little wildlife.
Been here before and loved it. Unfortunately yesterday it was closed. Not impressed as 140 mile round wasted trip and nothing to say why it was closed. Not best pleased I can tell you.
From humble beginnings this excellent, small observatory has achieved world-wide fame. Mr. Eddie Maguire - a local man - is a master of bird and wildlife photography. His work has graced many publications but he is often to be found in his beloved observatory at Machrihanish. This wee place is a magnet for coastal bird-watchers and wildlife photographers.
Visited the Gauldrons beside the observatory for some sunset photography, spectacular.
This bit of shoreline is fairly rugged, with pebble beaches in general, but also some sand. Great place for flotsam after a storm. A really good place for a walk, followed by coffee in the Old Club House next to the Ugadale Hotel This is where Marconi made the first transatlantic radio signal
Hiking
Good for kids
