Magpie Mine is open 24x365 (despite Google saying otherwise). There is no charge. Visitors are requested to respect and enjoy the peace of the location, not to damage or climb on any structures, not to damage the wildflowers. It is rough underfoot in places. There is no on-site parking. Dogs must be on lead as there may be cattle on-site. No litter or dog-poo and no drones please. Several public footpaths pass through the site. Interpretation boards explain the history. More information is available from the Peak District Mining Museum in Matlock Bath which also offers underground tours of Temple Mine. Magpie mine has UK "Scheduled Monument" status (Google incorrectly tags it as a "world heritage site", it is not).
Small free parking for around 3-4 cars just off the road. Access is on foot only, and to enter, you have to step through a narrow gap over a stone (see photos). There are few entry/exit gates for hikers, which are indicated on a map (see photos). I didn't see any toilet facilities or food/water, so plan accordingly. It is a very quiet and peaceful place. Worth a stop over if you are in the area
Nice little place for walk about. The views on a clear day are good . The mine is interesting to see but probably could do with more there . No seats to take a rest and admire the place .
One of my favourite places. Very photogenic, loads of history, a bit haunting and a history of that if it's your kind of thing. it's always worth a visit and a lovely place to stop and rest if you are going for a hike around the area.
Such an interesting and photogenic location. Easy to find, lay bay to park in front and then a short walk to the site. No charges. So interesting to learn about the history and great to wander around the whole site.
Been a couple of times now and can't believe how quiet it is. A great and free few hours for kids to explore. Dog was fine to walk around. Parking is limited. The setting is stunning though. Only wish they had some toilets at the visitor part. Great for taking photos and had a sneaky fly of my drone.
Car parking by the road, easy to find. Free parking, free entry. We went on a wet day, so no one around. Lovely, peaceful and quiet. Short walk from the road, past some cows and across a path. There's reading materials laid out. Not a huge site. Interesting read about the history of the mine and the magpie mine curse. Good to visit. Would recommend.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
