Since out at Newtonards for a hotel break my hubby and i took a visit out here to see this Castle and its ruins since visiting the loch at Strangford...Very pretty and stunning views out to sea...You could come here for picnic or anice walk ...
Great location and interesting ruin. So tranquil and great skies.
Hidden on Mahee island deep on the islands in strangford lock this little castle sits about 500 metres from Nendrum monestry site. Dating back to the 7th-8th centuary both places worth a visit. Great place out of the way for a picnic on a sunny day. If you enjoy history, artifacts and ruins. This is a few hours worth loosing.
Loved it! Well worth the visit when the weather is mild. :-)
A nicely kept building that's easy to climb up and see into the second story. There is no car park but you can park at Nendrum and walk down to it. The history of the castle is on a post near the castle to learn more. Nice views of the area too.
Such a tranquil setting, park at Nendrum monastic settlement and its a short walk back, plenty of history here
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
