Manderston is the supreme country house of Edwardian Scotland; the swan-song of its era. A house on which no expense was spared with opulent staterooms, the only silver-staircase in the world and extensive "downstairs" domestic quarters. The House stands in 56 acres of formal gardens, with magnificent stables and stunning marble dairy. John Kinross the architect, when enquiring how large his budget was, was told that money was no object. It was built for Sir James Miller who married the Honourable Eveline Curzon, daughter of Lord Scarsdale, head of one of the oldest families in the country. Manderston is available for exclusive hire for weddings, corporate events, private events, dining and leisure breaks
Great stately home only open at certain times of the year but well worth a visit the guides are very well informed and realy welcoming .
House tour recommended and the gardens are amazing.... only open from easter for approx 4 weeks so double check their website before visiting.
Lovely gardens, expertly shown by a friendly greeting ! The tour of the house was very interesting and informative. Guides and parking assistant very welcoming too. Thanks for a lovely day
Wow!! Such Beauty! We Didnt Get To Fit It All In One Day. The Gardens Have So Much To See. Lovely Little Tearoom In The Stable Yard Too.
A perfect example of an Edwardian House and as such featured in the TV series of that name. The guides were very friendly, informative and helpful and there is a lot to see and absorb. The collection of Huntley and Palmer biscuit tins must be unique and holds some very interesting examples. The kitchen, scullery and larder areas are especially interesting with several separate food larders - pastry, fish, cooked meat, raw meat, game (I can't remember them all). Outside the house, the grounds are extensive and I would recommend a walk down to the lake, then cross what looks like a really rickety bridge, and back up the other side. Worth checking whether the cricket team is playing as it is great to see them on the field.
Only open March and April, not all year round as listed in our guidebook, so we didn't get past the stables. The grounds look amazing so will return one day.
