Marchmont House is an imposing 'Grade A' listed Palladian mansion built in 1750 by Hugh Hume-Campbell, 3rd Earl of Marchmont. Major changes were made between 1914 and 1917 when the then owner, Robert Finnie McEwen commissioned the eminent Scottish architect Sir Robert Lorimer to enlarge the house and it stands today as perhaps the finest example of his 'grand' house refurbishments. It lies to the east of the village of Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders, 19 miles west of Berwick-upon-Tweed and just 40 miles from Edinburgh. PLEASE NOTE: Marchmont is only open to the public for a limited number of days each year for guided tours and special events, and all tickets must be booked in advance. Thank you for your understanding.
Great tour and beautiful gardens. Cafe looked pretty good, too. A lovely day out and value for money IMHO.
What a really special day The house is so beautifully done and it's incredible to be up close to a Henry Moore, Anthony Gormley, Gainsborough and so much more. Interiors to perfect. Staff completely natural, warm , friendly and helpful. Excellent tour. Great lunch
Enjoyed our tour of the house with it's extensive collection of fine art, furniture etc. Especially enjoyed the collection of Arts and Crafts artwoks displayed in the back kitchen where an excellent cold lunch was served, by friendly staff.
This is well worth visiting, beautifully restored early 18th century stately home. It is packed with exceptional pieces of sculpture, furniture and art from classical graeco Roman to 16th century and 2023. the guide tour lasted about 90 mins and that was just the highlights!there is also a very good sculpture garden. Excellent reasonably priced cafe too.
Wonderful tour of a beautifully restored mansion. Art works placed strategically to showcase their beauty and inspire creativity. Staff friendly, knowledgeable and super interaction with visitors encouraging sharing stories and experiences prior to the restoration. An absolute joy to visit and looking forward to returning in May to explore the workshops
Very well organised tour lasting 2 hours. Cost PS17 per person. Not often open for tours and can be booked out quite quickly. Does have a lift if required.
