A large, intricately carved shell-shaped structure situated on the seafront in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, featuring a grand, sweeping staircase and ornate decorations, housing a museum and art gallery showcasing a collection of natural history specimens, artworks, and exhibits that tell the story of the local area's history and culture.
A sculpture sat just off the shore in Cleveleys, UK. The town is not far from Blackpool, and the Shell has a beach and cafe nearby.
Lovely piece of Beach art, always makes me smile whenever I see it. Really like how it's never the same view of it every time you visit. Sometimes it's underwater and not visible, sometimes the tide is out and even the base is exposed, other times it glistens in the Sun and on occasion it makes a good wind shelter. Always changes but still the same Shell.
Hard to recommend making a trip to Cleveleys just to see Mary's Shell, but if you are in the area anyway then it's worth a walk. The Beach walk is gentle enough and as others have said it's a good chance to take some photos of something different if that's your thing.
Very photogenic any time of day, although you might want to try to be there at high tide. The cafe is right alongside the sculpture which is a lovely bonus.
The shell is slightly confusing until You recognise it as a shell. Initially I thought it was a bomb or a mangled ship. But once I realised, it looks great. Cleveleys front looks vastly improved, sadly the pubs and Victoria gardens look a mess. Mary's Shell itself was covered in graffiti which spoilt it somewhat.
Didn't really know that it had a name. It just looked like it had washed up on shore. It wasn't till we'd sat down and rested for a bit. We realised it was an art installation next song. I come to the beach. I'm gonna bring some paper with me. Get it sorted out cause it really needs the ross taken off.
