Maurice Dobson Museum & Heritage Centre is a restored Georgian Yeoman's residence where Darfield's long history is brought to life!
A surprise to find this excellent little museum. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Full of interesting local history all explained by Ken Brookes, a sprightly 82 local, who walked and talked us round the museum. Finally ended up in a nice little tearoom which is part of the museum all run by volunteers. Will definitely be going again. Thank you Ken.
I had a one hour, one-to-one guided tour, by a fantastically knowledgeable local expert of this amazing, quirky and unique museum. Eg: an antique bellows-powered vacuum cleaner (!)
We had a fantastic visit yesterday, there was a guided tour of both upstairs and down telling us all about the history or Maurice Dobson, the house, Darfield and the items in the house. There's a lovely big tea room in the back serving delicious cakes, tea and coffee, it was exceptionally clean and displays local artists work which are available to buy and the artist changes every month. I'm not one for museums normally but the guided tour made it very interesting and we will go back to look at things more in depth and visit the lovely tea rooms again. If you haven't been, I can highly recommend it.
Great museum, cafe and staff telling the story of Darfield and at the same time preserving the memories of Maurice Dobson and Fred Halliday.
