This 17th-century former fish house on the River Ure in Ripon, North Yorkshire, features a unique blend of medieval and Georgian architectural styles. The building's rustic charm is enhanced by its picturesque setting amidst lush greenery and overlooking the tranquil river.
This lovely building is preserved well by English heritage, including informative panels explaining the history!
Meare Fish House dates from around 1330. It was erected by Glastonbury Abbey to house the official in charge of Meare's great freshwater lake (drained in the late 16thC) and the fishery.
Unfortunately the fish house was closed upon our arrival even though it said it was open. Never the less it was still good to see and walk around . Hopefully we can catch it one day in the future (excuse the pun)
Nice medieval building with interesting history. If you want to go inside, get the key from Manor farm opposite the church before you go as you'll have to walk/drive back. There's no path, we had to park half on the footpath.
Small little building in a cow paddock. Parking difficult to come by, had to pull up on the verge for the 5 mins we were viewing the site.
Heaven on earth x a stunning little hideaway ... beautiful views, great hosts at the beautiful cottage x
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
