This 150-acre park features a mix of woodland, grassland, and wetland habitats, with several walking trails, including a 1.5-mile circular route around the park's perimeter. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, bats, and insects, and offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can also explore the park's history, including its former use as a military base and its role in the D-Day landings. Amenities include a car park, toilets, and a picnic area.
Very pretty little park, very clean and a lovely place to take the dog for a stroll. Was muddy in places due to recent wet weather but that was mainly by the river. Nice car park and plenty of dog poo bins. Would definitely recommend for dog walkers and families with young children as the wildlife sighting opportunities are plentiful
Beautiful little park for a wander. Runs alongside the river and has a large pond/mini lake with well trodden paths meandering around the largely wooded park. Lots of points worth stopping to take in the views. Den building area. Several picnic tables spread out and dotted around a very pretty area close to the free parking. The grass in this area is also cut if preferred. Tiny cafe nestled by a pond in the trees is another nice spot to take refreshment. As is the Nethergate brewery just around the corner.
I have always loved comming to melford country park. Espccialy in the spring when I can hear all the birds sing. It is a butiful park with walks in all directions. It is a tranquil place with seats and a seasonal cafe.
This was 1st time back here for well over 30 years, and not much has changed, which is a very good thing. We used to come here as a family back then with a picnic and a ton of energy to run off and happily get my kids doing the same. There are toilets on site in the large free carpark. Thos is popular with dog walkers and ramblers alike. If you're feeling a bit more energetic, you can walk or cycle to here from Sudbury along the old railway line, which is level and straight too, so excellent for your younger children to use. Highly recommended country park.
A pleasant enough park to wander around for a few minutes. The environs here left mostly alone to run wild. There is a track that follows the River Stour, and this loops around to join the lake (which was choked with algae during this hot summer). A narrow picturesque wooden bridge traverses the centre, crossing the lake at a narrow point. Picnic benches near the car park, with main toilets out of order at the moment.
Had a picnic here and there were plenty of picnic tables to choose from. Also good parking facilities and toilets. Lots of walks to take, but we were short of time, so will be back to explore more. Sadly it was the last day of a little snack and tea bar, which had decided to stop trading due to various issues . So we missed out on that and am sure locals and regular visitors will be sad to see this go, having seen many people come and go that day with their dogs and families. A lovely natural park, but we were intrigued by the strange noise as we sat having our picnic. We discovered later it was the traffic going over the metal bridge, which was the other side of the hedge, running along side the road . We will definitely go back.
