Melton Carnegie Museum is housed in the town's former Carnegie Library, built in 1905 with a grant from the industrialist Andrew Carnegie; the building became the town's museum in 1977. Melton Museum traces the social and economic history of Melton and includes exhibitions on the town's world-renowned Stilton cheese and pork pie industries and the history of fox hunting.
Following a friend's recommendation we took grandchild to take part in the planned activities. We were not disappointed - the staff were really lovely - we spent far longer than we expected to as there were so many interesting items on show. The children's activities were great and granddaughter really enjoyed it. Will certainly visit again.
I visited Melton museum for the first time today with my 18month old and was blown away! It's so much more child friendly (in fact it's very child orientated) than I expected. It has little activity stations, dress up rail, reading corners and my son absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was lovely and we didn't feel as though we had to be silent walking round. I've already texted my friends recommending it and will definitely visit again!
Fabulous little museum in my adopted hometown, showcasing the rich history that makes Melton such a great place to live. Really enjoyed it. A great way to spend an hour or so...
Nice little museum to be fair, fairly small but lots too see, ladies that work there are lovely and polite, will be back Tuesday for the under the sea, which I thought was today .
Small, rural and somewhat country traditions that are now spurned upon by some minorities. At least there's great history about the local area.
Great place to have a walk around with the children and informative about the local area and its history.

Wheelchair-accessible toilet
