A 38-meter-tall Gothic-style monument built in 1817 to commemorate Vice-Admiral Lord Viscount Melville, situated in St. John's Town of Dalry, Scotland, featuring a square base, tapering tower, and a lantern room at the top.
Views from near the monument are great. Steep path up from near Devils Cauldron that is badly eroded and very muddy in patches. Nice walks nearby
Strenuous short walk up from the road, monument now a bit overgrown with grass and broom, but still an amazing view across Strathearn. The less said about Lord Melville the better, though...
The 72-ft-tall granite obelisk of Melville Monument was completed in 1812 and stands atop Dun More, to the north of Comrie near Crieff.
We stopped off to see the local waterfall and thought we we go see the monument at the same time.... We were disappointed to see the path was destroyed by fallen trees. I'm not sure if there are other paths and routes up to the monument but you ain't getting up there on the signposted route, that's for sure
Glorious! The stairs and wooden walkway down to Devil's Cauldron are really wisely made with extra slats to prevent you from slipping when the boards are wet, which is a lot of the time. It's breathtaking and well worth your time. As to the monument, the trail system leading up is a bit on the confusing side. But it is lovely.
A tricky and steep "path" up through the trees needs care and attention to avoid tripping on tree roots or slipping. We followed the path signposted from the road so not sure if there is a better path from the other side of the hill. Great view from the top.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
