This reserve in the Scottish Highlands features a diverse range of habitats, including ancient Caledonian pine forest, heather-covered moorland, and sparkling freshwater lochs. The landscape is dotted with granite tors, rocky outcrops, and hidden glens, creating a dramatic and rugged scenery. The reserve is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including red deer, golden eagles, and otters, and offers scenic walking trails, picnic spots, and opportunities for birdwatching and photography.
The site is lovely, but when we visited we didn't actually see many birds sadly. There were many dragonflies around and a honey buzzard had been spotted. We had a lovely walk and as always with an RSPB reserve the staff were very friendly and helpful.
A great place for quiet riverside walks with extensive views over wide reed beds and grazing marshes. Very popular with bird watchers. Some good riverside pubs too - I would particularly recommend The Ferry Inn at Surlingham.
Very peaceful, lovely walk if not a bit muddy.
Gorgeous location, stayed in Serena Cottage in Brundall. Highly recommended, shame that we did not have brilliant weather. This is an ideal location for exploring the Broads and Norfolk coast.
Possibly one of the best national parks in England with 200 miles of navigable waterways to explore, cosy pubs and friendly locals. There is a wealth of wildlife to see, Kingfishers if you keep alert, visiting flocks of unusual feathered visitors, Otters and Seals on the coast. Hire a boat and sail, or motor to Horsey and walk to the coast a mile and a half away from Horsey Mill, breaking your journey at the Nelson's Head for a pint and great food.
Google the best times and what to expect as every month you will see different things. I went on spring when birds where going crazy so it was fun to watch.
