Hidden gem of Derby! Me and the kids had a fantastic day out here. It was the kids first time on a train and the views and location is fantastic. The amount on offer here is way beyond what I expected and we didn't even see it all. We will be back soon with friends to do it all again. The most surprising thing was how quite it was here, they have a fantastic community feeling here everyone is clearly very passionate about being there and supporting the history. Highly recommended for a relaxed day trip out especially if you enjoy engineering in any capacity

Excellent preserved railway site, with train services, museums, miniature railways, walks and lots of things to do and exhibits. I visited during the Ale on the rails event and it was well organised, with an interesting mix of trains and beers. I'd recommend the nearby fishing lakes cafe for breakfast before visiting.

Wonderful place to visit with so many interesting exhibits to see, in lovingly restored old buildings, set in beautiful countryside. The volunteers are all friendly and very happy to answer any questions. The train line goes through some beautiful scenery and there's a narrow gauge railway that's only PS1. There's a lovely cafe and all the facilities are family friendly. The shop has a great selection of toys, models and railway books/magazines.

Had a great day out at Butterley and Swanwick, rode on the train which was diesel and not steam unfortunately this week. Had a good look round the signal box , buses, the pump engines and the train museums all with very helpful and knowledgeable staff all eager to answer any questions. Several Cafes on site to get a nice cuppa and a bit of cake and number of model railway. A good day out

Was an amazing day to come here to do a 125 group running day. 2 HST Sets operating on the day visiting. 80's themed weekend with 80's music, and 80's arcade and plenty to do. Strongly recommend to come and visit.

Great place to visit. You can travel up and down the Butterley line, ither on a steam or diesel train, stopping off at Swanwick Junction where there are museums, model railway exhibits. Childrens play area. Picnic tables. Miniature railway. In the West Shed, houses a few museums and a cafe in the library where there is lego and a craft table for children.
