A 19th-century forester's lodge situated in the heart of Thetford Forest, featuring a charming rustic exterior, a cozy interior with exposed beams and a large inglenook fireplace, and surrounded by scenic woodland walks and picnic areas.
A nice, flat, quiet area of forest with an easy two mile walk around. We went to do the geocache trail, which is excellent. Lots of dog walkers with well behaved dogs but also a LOT of dog poo around (both on the ground and bagged up and hung in trees). The site is bin free and could really use some dog waste bins to deal with the problem.
A pleasant flat forest walk just over an hour's drive from East London. The paths are suitable for buggies. The walk is signposted and if you want to shorten it you can cut through in various places, although this would be off path. There was a mixture of trees in this managed forest and some interesting wildlife. We saw a number of deer so you might need to look out for ticks. The area is popular with dog walkers not all of whom clean up but it's exaggerated that you have to watch every step you take. It's not a place for those who like a sit down on a bench. Relatively quiet considering how busy the nearby roads are. Pleasant and nice get away from the city.
Great walk, facts along the way and nice trees...people friendly as they walk by too. Highly recommended
Great little walk mostly on paths with forest on both sides. Spotted one bench along the 2 mile (3.15km) circular walk. Free car park for about 8 cars. About 1/2 mile down the track (counter clockwise) is the restored Warren Lodge. There had been a rabbit warren at the site since the 1300s, one of over twenty in medieval Breckland where rabbits were farmed in designated areas for their meat and their fur. This warren lodge is one of only two surviving medieval warren lodge buildings in Breckland, the other being Thetford Warren Lodge. I did not see one rabbit or hare, so I'm guessing they've been eliminated. If I have one criticism it is the state of the route markers. Several have succumbed to rotting and fallen over and now hidden by vegetation. I'm not sure a hunter green band on an untreated pole is the best choice. Take care and keep to the paths most travelled. If this review is helpful please press like
I love the walk around here. Not sure I would visit in the evening though. Suspect characters seem to visit and deposit all sorts of rubbish and waste. Near to recycle centre and people are lazy.
Lovely place to walk, we took the dog for a long walk and he very much enjoyed the place. Lots to sniff and felt very safe to let him run free off lead.
