This reserve is a vast area of wetland and heathland, covering over 1,900 hectares, and is one of the largest and most important wetlands in the UK. The reserve is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including otters, water voles, and birds such as the curlew and lapwing. The landscape is characterized by its many pools, lochs, and streams, which are surrounded by boggy ground and heather-covered hills. The reserve is also notable for its peat bogs, which are of great importance for carbon storage and are a habitat for many rare plants and insects. Visitors can explore the reserve through a network of walking trails and hides, which offer opportunities to spot wildlife and take in the unique landscape.
Beautiful place! My mother's grandparents were born here (Tayintrath, and Dalnahassaig) so it is great to be able to see where they lived in the shadow of Dunadd.
Small walk, but out of the way, beautiful scenery, saw some birds while we were there, not really a big enough walk for dogs but a beautiful place to stop if you're passing through.
Parked in the carpark and did the short circular walk with my wife who is in a wheelchair. The walk was nice and we went out on the board walk, my wife had no problems navigating the walk in her wheelchair.
A short walk round pretty woods and total peace out on the boardwalk into the middle of the moor. I have been visiting this place for twenty years and love it still.
We went for a circular walk around Moine Mhor the Great Moss which is a massive blanket of bog covering most of the west coast of Argyll near Crinan and Kilmichael and the nearby towns there are some lovely models of houses and tilework on the trail path. Great scenery and awesome wildlife Here is a map of the trail including the new trail that has recently been added to the boardwalk on the right
Remote but close to nearby towns. The wildlife is amazing. Beautiful part of the world
