This ancient woodland is a haven for nature lovers and walkers, boasting a stunning array of flora and fauna, including rare species of trees, flowers, and birds. The woodland's undulating terrain is crisscrossed by a network of winding paths and trails, inviting visitors to explore its secrets and discover hidden clearings and scenic vistas.
Brilliant place to walk your dogs, Wildlife Trust Woodland area, main walk used by most walkers. Sign says dogs in leads but as long as your dogs don't stray off the main route they are fine. Most areas off the route are birch fenced to protect the wildlife . Uneven route coming back down the NE side of the wood, this would also be very muddy as the Autumn and Winter arrive.
A place to put your boots on and explore, plenty of different paths to take and search for all sorts of wildlife through the trees. Shame they are cutting some parts down so advise to go on a weekend where they are not working at the moment
Lovely walk, especially in the spring and autumn. Some pathways are stoned but go prepared for muddy places after the rain.
A lovely woodland to walk in. There is a circular, but we got lost. Lots of butterflies and wildlife. Quiet, so not many parking spaces.
Monkwood. No facilities as such, except a free car park. Lovely place to walk though the woods with dogs or children, or start a longer stroll. Paths criss-cross, and whilst the main path is a bridleway, others are not. Wear wellies!...the ground is very clay-like and retains water - side paths can be muddy and slippery. Easy to lose yourself for an hour in nature, and it's working on being a butterfly reserve.
Pathways through woodland- what's not to love? However, as I have some mobility issues, getting over stiles was a two man job. Is there another way of providing a more accessible gateway? Perhaps needs some more car parking space- it was getting very crowded at 10.30 am on Sunday.
