Nature oasis on 16-acres of parkland, offering a learning center & observatory with star events.
A wonderful place to visit. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. You can visit the museum, book shop and cafe for free and pay a reasonable entrance fee to walk the nature and sculpture trail. The cafe has limited options of drinks/cakes/snacks/icecreams for a very reasonable cost. You are also permitted to bring a packed lunch which you can eat in the cafe area. The second hand book shop is beautifully organised and the books are very cheap. A book lovers heaven! We didn't walk around the nature trail as 2 of our group have mobility issues but there was an area where you could watch drone footage of the site and watch any birds that come to the bird feeders. There was also a gift shop and outdoors there were outdoor kitchens for the children to play on. A lovely community feel to this site. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars is that the paths weren't very accessible for disabled people but we had expected that, and were happy with what we could see.
Monkton Nature Reserve is situated in a 16-acre abandoned chalk quarry on the Isle of Thanet in East Kent. An amazing place to visit for everyone. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful to answer any of your questions. There are the observatory, the museum, the bookshop and the little cafe there and lots of trails to choose from. Open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm The last entry is 2:30 pm. Great for any season!
Really nice site with some exhibits, a cafe and bookshop inside the welcome centre. Very friendly staff and volunteers. Worth a visit if you're in Thanet or passing by.
Such friendly, knowledgeable staff. The passion for conservation is evident in all areas of the setting. Super clean, educational facilities and wonderful gift and second hand book shop
Super friendly staff - a lot of volunteer time and effort has clearly gone into this place. Fun little second hand book store and a museum packed full of local curiosities, fossils, artefacts etc. Cafe doesn't stock much (depths of winter though) but would be a cracking spot for a picnic. Not very push chair friendly, especially with the wet ground (wear your boots!) but a great way to kill a few hours in some very untypical Kent country side. Have yet to try the stargazing but would imagine it's excellent.
Visited Monkton Nature Reserve today, it is wonderful! So much to do with the grandchildren. Lots of things to see. The gift shop is very very reasonably priced with a gift for everyone to choose from. The vast library of books for sale is astonishing, I was tempted by the cafe too. Well done to the friendly staff, nothing's too much trouble.
