A 12-mile scenic route in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside and access to picturesque villages, historic sites, and natural wonders, including the Monsal Head viaduct, Cressbrook Dale, and the River Wye.
Definitely a must visit. The trail runs for 8.5 miles along an old railway line and includes tunnels, bridges, disused station platform and a viaduct. Lots of easy access points and a cafe on route.
It was another incredible day with the family. The children and I walked around everything . We love to come here, just to walk and ride bicycles. Every time it is fashionable to meet a large number of people, but also beautiful scenery. incredible nature, a cozy place to relax with a hotel and a toilet if needed. There is a bar/ice cream. You can walk your dog if you have one. We will definitely come again to spend more time on the river.
Great place for a walk with family or just in couples. We waited around 30 min to park the car due to busyness on Easter Sunday, but it shouldn't that busy during regular weekends. There are few ways to pick from so you can find the trail you prefer. The best part was the stepping stones, great view. I would highly advise walking boots or wellies as it tends to be very muddy once rained.
This is a fantastic place to spend your weekend! The highlight is long tunnels and over bridges, offering scenic views along the way. There's even a small waterfall that adds to the charm. It's an ideal spot to chill out and enjoy some quality time with your family. The combination of natural beauty and memorable outing for everyone.
For clarity, I walked the route from Bakewell to Millers Dale, and had a little explore of Monsal Head, above, below and on the viaduct The trail itself is lovely. A little upward walk from Bakewell to access the trail, but from then on, everything was basically flat all the way to Millers Dale. The two photos attached were just one of the many gorgeous views when you step less than a hundred steps off the trail on to the many side paths before getting back on the trail. The tunnels are definitely a different experience. A deep change of downwards temperature and light. The tunnels are not as long as you think. They are well lit, and the trail is busy enough you never feel alone. The trail does abruptly end approx' 5 mins before Wyedale Car park, but the path again to the car park is basically flat.
Got to Bakewell early parked down the road from Bakewell old train station car park and avoided paying PS4.70 parking.Great Walk along the old train line passing many old stations, then walked up to Monsal head to take photos of the Monsal bridge
