Founded in 1842 by Montrose Natural History and Antiquarian Society, Montrose Museum was built in a neo-classical style with ionic columns at the entrance, inspired by Greek temples of learning, inside the galleries display an incredible array of artefacts from the earliest archaeological finds to the Marquis of Montrose and the Jacobite uprisings, through to contemporary maritime history. One of Scotland's first purpose-built museums, three large galleries offer the opportunity to explore local history, natural history, and maritime history collections. A beautiful art gallery provides space for changing contemporary art exhibitions. Entrance is Free.
We had our wedding here yesterday, what a lovely group of people working here! So kind, friendly and helpful. It has such a relaxed atmosphere and we had the most wonderful day. Thank you all!!
A small museum but with an interesting collection of items to look at. I spent about 30 minutes in here and really enjoyed wandering around. The staff member at the desk was very friendly and there was lots of information for the items.
Lots more than you would expect in such a small cosy space. Well Worth the time. Informative friendly staff
Nice quaint little museum in a peaceful little Scottish town. Shares its past in artefacts and also has a small collection of stuffed animals representing the wildlife in the area.
Very interesting and accessible for all. Lady on reception very welcoming.
Great wee museum, had a lovely time here. Staff very welcoming and I suggest you ask for the photo tick quiz for the children (even if you don't have any!) From local history to Egyptian statues!
