Morlais Heritage Trail is a 3 miles long picturesque walking Trail goes around the edge of the Morlais Hill and Morlais Quarries! Brecon Mountain Railway and Pant Cemetery are located on the edge of the Morlais Trail! Morlais Golf Club is a private land with right of way being located at the centre of the Morlais Hill. Morlais Golf Club has a restaurant and venue suitable for wedding & events! From the Easter side of the Morlais Quarry, Brecon Mountain Railway can be seen and during summer time, you will witness the operation of the magnificent heritage steam engine locomotive ! Morlais Castle Quarries are the remnants of early 19th century limestone quarries on an industrial scale associated associated with Penydarren and Dowlais Ironworks. The four quarries around the Morlais Hill are now disused but have become a much-loved rock climbing destination and favourite with Ramblers & dog walkers witnessing the spectacular atmosphere and scenic beauty! The Morlais Hill has various degree of gradients! Due to the nature of the Morlais Hill landscapes, part of the trail may not be suitable for some Ramblers! There is a nice plaque with Trail information installed by the main entrance of the Brecon Mountain Railway! The Morlais Heritage Trail is a Pen-y-Dre High School project assisted by MerthyrGroundwork Trust (Greenspace), Pioneers Art Group and Community Design Service. Information about the Trail is not readily available on the Internet. Waymarkers are also not very legible! It would be ideal to invest in the information Display boards and Waymarkers making it easier for visitors! It is located just off A465 and be aware that there is no dedicated car parkings for visitors and climbers !
