A 15th-century tower house with a unique blend of medieval and Tudor architectural styles, featuring a sturdy stone exterior, tall chimneys, and a striking asymmetrical façade.
Morland House simply could not have been a better place to celebrate a 70th birthday, with 19 friends and 4 dogs there for 4 days in late May. It has been a family home for generations, and although it is a much larger house than most of us could ever aspire to, it is welcoming with good 'vibes' and comfortable as well as having a distinct touch of grandeur. The beds are wonderful, the rooms are spacious and there are plenty of bathrooms, showers and hot water. There is an enormous cosy kitchen, as well as a catering kitchen if you employ a cook for the evening, plenty of space for dogs, boots and the drying of coats (a necessity in the Eden Valley). There are books both ancient and modern, board games, a piano and sofas into which to sink round the drawing room fire, while you compose a quiz for the guests, perhaps, or you can play pool in the games room The dining room is large and panelled like some of the other rooms and hallways, and there is a great feeling of space so children (and even adults) can run around, or escape from others for a while. Outside, the Walled Garden is a delight, and there are lawns, borders and trees, with the beck usually hurtling through the wilder part of the garden where there are secret overgrown paths and various artefacts to discover. Walk out of one of the many doors and you are in the village , with the Mill Yard cafe, and many walks all around with far-reaching views to gladden the heart while you absorb the peace and quiet, making the real world seem a long way away. Go and visit, for as long as you can, and you will see just what I mean!
We had an amazing time at Morland house for a family reunion long weekend. There were 19 of us, with plenty space so we didn't get under each others feet. There was lots to do...we made lots of use of the games room, played games in the garden and croquet on the lawn. It was great spot for running with plenty trails to walk and run. The setting was stunning and the grounds are beautiful with access to the river. The house was really well equipped and there wasn't anything we didn't have. It was clean with lots of facilities. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of toilets and loo roll! Fresh linen and towels. The history surrounding the house and family was a delight to experience and the cards in each bedroom describing each family member were intriguing. It was an honor to have been able to have experienced what living in such a house was like. We can recommend Shap Chippy! We arrived Friday evening and originally considered pizza's from the local place however, as there were so many of us and it was getting late we opted for fish and chips. Shap Chippy took the order over the phone at 7pm despite closing at 7.30pm and made our order ready for collection at 7.30 when they were closing up. They were delicious too. Morland isn't far from Penrith so we were able to replenish food and drinks relatively easily. Overall, it was a truly wonderful family weekend away made all the more special in the amazing comfort and surrounds of Morland House. We'll definitely be returning and recommending to others.
The perfect setting for a special weekend celebrating my Mum's 70th birthday, with a range of ages of 17 people and 3 dogs! When we first arrived the house seemed soooo vast, but by the time we left it felt like a home! The location is fabulous so much to see and do locally, and the house and grounds are simply stunning and wonderfully interesting! On our first night we pre-ordered wood fired pizzas from the Millyard Cafe at the bottom of the drive, highly recommended and saved cooking on the first night!! We also used Judith who had been recommended by the house to cater a Sunday roast in the dining room for us which was very special, so tasty, the beef was 'melt in your mouth' good! Judith was so lovely to deal with, we would definitely recommend using her! The housekeeper Jane was warm, friendly and kind, and the manager Julia was extremely helpful providing assistance and tips before we arrived. The beds were very comfy so we all slept well! The games room was enjoyed by all the family. The Drawing Room with the fire was a great space for us all to come together on an evening, we had lots of fun doing a quiz night, karaoke and a Murder Mystery night! The kitchen and snug was warm and cosy and lovely to gather in a morning as we all meandered down! We had such a memorable time and all wished we had a bit longer than 3 nights to enjoy all the house had to offer! Thank you to all for making it special and providing us with such happy memories!
Beautiful place. My ceilidh band (@priceofmypig) played here tonight for a wedding. The gardens and venue were lovely.
A wonderful house! The interiors are amazing, we stayed for a weekend which is not enough time to really appreciate this house and all there is to see in it and in the surrounding area. The rooms were all very comfortable and the manger and house keeper were incredibly helpful. Thank you for a very memorable stay.
We spent a great weekend at Morland House in September celebrating a 50th Birthday. The house was an ideal venue for 17 plus two dogs, giving plenty of space to spread out, even to have a little boogie. The gardens were a bonus and well cared for and a pleasure to have a stroll in and sit a while.
