Mortimer Forest is a woodland area in Herefordshire, England, covering approximately 1,000 hectares. The forest features a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees, including oak, beech, and pine, with many walking trails and paths for visitors to explore. The terrain is varied, with hills, valleys, and streams, offering scenic views and opportunities to spot local wildlife such as deer, badgers, and birds. The forest is also home to several ancient monuments, including the Mortimer Forest Cross, a medieval stone cross, and the remains of a Roman road.
Lovely views from the top of the woods. Fantastic stone track, the side tracks have exposed roots like you would expect but you are warned of this if looking at the routes online. The paths have wooden posts dotted along them to show where to go, the fern is quite high at the moment, due to the time of year, around some of the post but still easy to see and find your way around. What must have taken a lot of effort to start really does make all the difference when walking round. Woods is extremely dog friendly, you are asked to pick up any poo, which you expect and most would do, but I have seen a fair few walkers not picking it up. Car parks are always tidy and plenty of picnic bences to enjoy a bite to eat. There are plenty of benches dotted round the trails and online some advise exactly how many is on the route. Both Cooper and I love this woods and always enjoy our walks up there. Thank you to the forestry team for such a good job
Beautiful place lots of different circular walks for all abilities, including an easy access trail. Car parking is good although I'm sure one of the car parks shuts early so make sure you check. Lots of benches and picnic tables.
Massive, dense forest with free parking. A lovely place to walk, has loads of paths. We did the 14km Climbing Jack trail. It's mostly well signposted, but as some of the paths are rough, it might not be obvious where to turn sometimes; I'd suggest getting a GPX route on your phone/watch. Fog ruined the views, but the walk was still thoroughly enjoyable. I'll be returning on a clear day.
Lovely forest, plenty paths to choose from. I stayed on the main paths so I wouldnt get lost but its very clearly waymarked, easy to follow directions. 12 km walk on a gorgeous sunday afternoon.
Loved riding my bike around the forest so lucky to have it just outside ludlow
Parked at Vinnalls car park and, despite it being pleasant weather and the school holidays, it wasn't too busy at all. Stunning views from the top of the hill, well worth the effort. Really well kept, beautifully looked after. Gorgeous place for an afternoon with the children.
