Britain's tallest windmill. Built in 1822, the mill has been completely restored to a fully working wind-powered windmill. It is operated and maintained entirely by volunteers. Take a tour to the top or relax in the Granary Tea Room with a tea or coffee and slice of cake. Open at weekends and on Bank Holidays.
My friend and I visited here on Saturday 6th April 2024. Our Guide, John was an encyclopedia of very interesting information . He did not talk down to us but engaged us into his tour and asked us often for any questions. It is a fascinating glimpse back into history spanning 200 years . Quite awesome how they even managed to build it in those times. Very enjoyable.
Very informative tour. Staff friendly and helpful. Great views from top. Interesting working history. Steps very steep. Scared myself up and down!
We were guided round by Kerry and learned so much about windmills, grinding, life in the last century, the upkeep of this wonderful structure plus the true meaning of a damsel in distress. You MUST be mobile to climb the narrow steps to the top but what a view and such mechanical workings! Wonderful
Absolutely fascinating. The guide was very knowledgeable. Well worth a visit.
Great example of a working windmill, has been well looked after and in great condition, the guys looking after it were lovely, our tour guide was full of information and very engaging, the tea room is lovely too, thankyou.
Lovely little tea room and the tour of the windmill by Alan was excellent. How these volunteers keep this grade one listed building going on a shoestring is unbelievable. Has to be visited - a real must. Make sure you're OK with narrow stairs if you want to do the tour. Only open weekends, but check regarding group visits.
