Beautiful surroundings and lovely walks. The house was really nice and able to see quite a bit of it. The armory was a real high. There was axe throwing and archery available at a small cost which was good fun. Great friendly service in the cafe and quite a good selection of foods. Kids really enjoyed the play area. The bird display was lovely and a very nice experience. We had a lovely time here and definitely good value for money.
Excellent day out at Muncaster Castle. The castle itself is very interesting and plenty of the rooms are open to view - it is occupied by the family, so think more 'stately home' than 'dungeons and turrets'. The grounds and woodlands are super, and there are several innovative children's play areas. The highlight was the two birds of prey flying displays: owls in the morning and eagles/hawks in the afternoon. These were truly memorable, spectacular, and moving. I suggest going when the weather is dry in order to make the most of your visit - I wouldn't want to do the long walk from the car park to the castle in heavy rain but, in fine weather, it's a pleasant stroll through the mature woodlands. Highly recommended!
It was quite a rainy day though it was expected to be sunny. So we just braced ourselves and sat under umbrellas watching the bird shows just like everyone else supporting the staff who braved the rain and put up a good show with the birds. Kids loved it regardless of the weather!
Took our grandson who absolutely loved the owls and birds of prey. We all had a great day out at a great price. The castle was interesting with the haunted room and library. It was raining so we didn't venture into the extensive gardens but they looked beautiful from the castle grounds. The highlight was the bird flying display...it was amazing. The team were so passionate and knowledgeable about the birds and it was clear to see their special relationship and trust between them all. We also visited the church which sadly wasn't open but had a chat to a member of the congregation. The church escaped the dissolution of the monasteries in the reign of Henry VIII as Muncaster was in Scotland at the time so the exact age is unknown as it wasn't in the Doomsday book. We did see a grave dating back to the Vikings. Overall we had a great day out for a fab price.
A very well organized place. So much to see, we spent the full day and still didn't see everything. The grounds were fabulous to walk around. The food in the cafe was very well cooked and presented. The flying displays were really good and informative. The staff were friendly and got to talk to the Lady of the house, Iona, as we were leaving as she was walking her dog. An all round brilliant day.
It was a very good experience and the bird shows were amazing.. very interesting. The castle was bigger than I expected. But I saw the rope blocking off the room move when nobody was there. I don't know what or how that happened but it was weird. I think it was a ghost. The views were absolutely great I saw loads of mountains and the houses all below me. The food there was also amazing, very nice. I would say the overall experience was worth it. Meredith aged 10
