Discover Edinburgh's fascinating history through the Museum of Edinburgh's wide and varied collections. In exploring the Museum's maze of 16th century buildings, you will see iconic items, beautiful objects and learn fascinating facts and gruesome tales.
You know when you've enjoyed a visit to a place when you're so engrossed in the experience that you didn't take photos whilst walking around. There's only one way to experience a museum and that is to be there in the moment to absorb as much as you are able. Until the next visit which is definitely on the cards. It's free to access.
Huge museum with a ton of things to see. It is easily worth a visit to fill your day. Does get very loud and the main areas crowded. It can be a bit of a maze so I would suggest grabbing a map to help navigate.
Beautiful museum exhibiting the history of Edinburgh. Very interesting pieces and medias. It is quite small so quick and easy to add to any city visit. Don't miss it !
Fantastic but little-known museum, which is located only 400 metres from Holyrood House, at the less popular end of Canongate (Royal Mile). The museum offers an insight into the history of Edinburgh in an interesting and informative way. For those lovers of Bobby (isn't everyone), they actually have his dog-collar and water bowl on display. The museum is free to enter, but donations are appreciated. There is also a small but interesting gift shop. Don't miss it.
This museum was lovely. There was lots of information and artifacts from the history of Edinburgh, some donated from private collections by local, (some prominent) citizens. I enjoyed the pottery, ceramics, housewares, a bit of clothing, military artifacts, etc. The museum is an aggregation of old buildings that the museum has acquired over time. The buildings themselves are just fascinating. There is a wonderful exhibit, including the original proposal map of "New Town" Edinburgh and a video about the development, which I found quite interesting. Edinburgh has these little gem FREE museums--take advantage of them.
Interesting museum dedicated to the history of Edinburgh with free entry. It's looks smaller from the outside, but it actually has a lot of rooms to explore. They also have a small gift shop however staff wasn't that friendly. There is a large variety of exhibits. However, the building needs more maintenance and some renovation. It's quite an old building, and there was a distinctive smell that was unpleasant.
