This museum showcases a vast collection of scientific instruments and artifacts from the Victorian era, offering a fascinating glimpse into the groundbreaking discoveries and innovations of the 19th century.
We were made to feel so welcome by Tony and his wife, Pat, from the moment we arrived. After a brief health and safety discussion, Tony led us into his 'lab' where he had acquired a huge collection of Victorian era experimental apparatus, some of which he had restored himself. It was like setting foot onto the film set of Boris Karloff's 'Frankenstein', such was the vast array of devices. However, these weren't merely Hollywood props - these were the real deal! Accompanied by pops, bangs and whizzes, Tony demonstrated a wide range of electromagnetic phenomena to us in an entertaining and informative style that kept us engaged and eager to learn more. If only studying O-level physics had been this engaging 40 years' ago then I'm sure I'd have done better than the grade 'C' I managed to scrape by with! After a lovely afternoon tea intermission of coffee, cakes and engaging conversation, laid on by Pat, we were once more back in the lab to be entertained and informed in equal measure for the second hour by Tony before he concluded with his piece de resistance finale which capped off a truly memorable two hours. What I liked most about this experience was its authenticity - not only for the Victorian era lab apparatus that Tony had meticulously collected and restored over many years, but from our hosts. Tony and Pat are genuinely nice people who made us feel incredibly welcome from the first moment we arrived. Tony's style of delivery is casual and informative with a hint (a strong hint towards the end!) of the theatrical which really made the two hours we spent in his company absolutely fly by. Pat was the consummate host at teatime, having laid on a lovely spread for us. You simply don't get this genuine, authentic experience from the anodyne, mass produced 'experiences' cynically proffered for pure profit by larger establishments nowadays - this is a gem. Should you visit Tony and Pat? YES! Even if you're not naturally curious about Victorian era physics, I guarantee that you'll truly enjoy the experience nonetheless and come away both entertained and informed.
This place is great fun! Think of it as more of an immersive experience rather than a traditional museum. Tony was very friendly and entertaining, demonstrating all of the equipment in a fun and informative way, and Pat provided us with delicious refreshments half way through. Would definitely recommend
A fantastic treasure trove of information in the guise of Tony who is steeped in science and can explain the principles behind these amazingly beautiful objects of wonder. The best 2 hours I've spent in a museum and the bonus of tea and cake with Patricia was the icing on the cake. Well worth the fee. Please check their website and ring to book your bespoke visit.
What a superb few hours myself and my friend have had today in the company of Tony and Pat. The museum is astounding, there is SO much to look at in such a tiny space. Tony is very experienced and knowledgeable and really quite entertaining whilst demonstrating his treasures. The visit was very informative and we really enjoyed sitting down for tea and cake with Pat. A wonderfully friendly delightful couple who are so passionate to share their hospitality.
We absolutely loved coming here and we learnt so much. The laboratory is a plethora of equipment that are like pieces of art in their own right and some uniquely made to enhance your experience. Tony and Pat made us feel so welcome and it was lovely to have tea and cake before the second part of whizz bangs and pops.
This is honestly the most incredible and wonderful place I've ever visited. IT'S NOT A NORMAL MUSEUM THOUGH SO DON'T JUST TURN UP! This collection is in Tony's house and therefore you must book in advance - as far in advance as possible. Tony allows you into his space to see his astonishing collection at work. He talks to you about how things came about, and he asks a few questions too! But this isn't really a 'museum'. It's a chance to spend a couple of hours with a deeply fascinating (and delightfully eccentric) man, reveling in being part of his world for just a short time. There's also a fabulous afternoon tea on offer, where you'll meet the graceful, elegant Pat. An absolutely beautiful lady, warm and friendly, and very much worth sitting and chatting to in her own right. I would pay Tony and Pat just to sit and hear their stories. They don't make folk like these two any more. They're a vanishing breed - and the world will be poorer for their loss.
