Nan's Mound is a prehistoric bowl barrow located in the county of Hampshire, England. It is a circular mound of earth, approximately 30 meters in diameter and 3 meters high, surrounded by a ditch. The mound is thought to have been built in the Late Neolithic period, around 2500-2000 BCE, as a burial site for a prominent individual or family. Archaeological excavations have revealed the presence of human remains, pottery, and other artifacts within the mound. Today, Nan's Mound is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a popular tourist destination, offering insight into the lives and burial practices of ancient Britons.
Took the mound in when on a visit from Yorkshire... this mound would not look out of place in the dales! A real hidden gem that provides a great viewing spot for all ages; would recommend grabbing a picnic and maybe a few cans. Will be back as soon as can get down this way again.
I heard about this wonderful majestic place all the way from South Africa, definitely on my travel list when we come to visit the UK! Locals told me that it is almost a tradition to enjoy a local sausage roll and a beer on the mound...
Lovely place to share a sausage roll with your friends & family. Better on a sunny day, Wednesday evenings, Saturday and Sunday day time for high standard cricket.
Took my dog for a walk around the cricket ground and finished the walk by having a drink on the mound and watching a game of cricket. Great views Will return for sure!
