Airy harbour museum full of boats, maritime artefacts and displays on smuggling, fishing and rescue.
Super museum, fun for all ages! We took a punt on an hour in the car to visit and so pleased we did! Lots of hands on activities for the kids (ours were 4 and 9 at time of visiting) including a kids pirate show, some RMLI vehicles to sit on, a boat pool (to drive boats on) and more! The lookout tower had amazing views, better on clear days. We especially enjoyed the underwater viewing area. We saw plenty of marine life including a large dogfish! The cafe was lovely, good food with great views over the harbour. The shop was well stocked and worth a good look for some local items. If you get a chance to visit, definitely do! You won't be disappointed.
Lovely day out with the children, ages 5 -14 , all of them enjoyed it. Went during the pirate exhibition in the summer holidays, very thorough and interesting, they also had a pantomime on hourly for the children which was well thought out and engaging, children loved it. Went down to tide 2 in the tower and enjoyed looking out to underwater and seeing the tide in the harbour.
Would definitely recommend - my kids had a wonderful time, there's quite abit to see and do. We watched alittle play first then we had a wonder around, its really interesting especially the bit about pirates. We also had a chance to create some craft pieces; a pirates hat, little ship and a parrot.
Fabulous place, whether you like boats or not. Just a couple of the screens not working properly as you walk around, which was a tiny bit disappointing. However, being able to see what's swimming around is amazing; being able to see the boats and views from up the top is also fantastic. The exhibits in between are also excellent. The cafe serves really good coffee, and the apple pie is delicious. Basically a winner all round - from 9 to 74! We went back for a second day because the tickets are valid for a year...
Great day out lots more to see than you might expect. Some great stories with some treasure on display. Sir Ben Ainsley boat on display in the main hall and plenty to keep the kids entertained. There is a cafe here with plenty of toilets and an accessible entrance and lift to access all floors for those with mobility issues. There is some seating dotted around the place too. Entrance is PS18 for an adult - 10% Forces/NHS Discount on the door. Plenty of parking nearby. Main car park is around PS5.50 for 2 hours. There is a smaller carpark nearby that is about PS5.50 for 24 hours or PS1 per hour (pay by Ringo app only) There are cafes/restaurants outside too and walking distance to town.
Last month on a short break in Falmouth we chose to visit the Museum during a dreary day and it was such a good idea. Very impressed with the structure of the building. The exhibits were displayed well - not too overcrowded, with very informative captions. The Lookout has amazing views of the harbour. The Tidal Zone feels rather strange. Not much to see through the windows but lots of information for children to look at. Finally the all important cafe. Clean and spacious with lovely views.
