Archaeological artefacts, art & natural history, plus visiting exhibitions in a grand setting.
Went around the art gallery section located on the upper floor. Great varied collection of artwork - many that look through the lens of Welsh culture and history of coal mining in Wales. Unique viewpoints and history to learn about - very informative and enjoyable experience. Free to visit and see majority of the art gallery section.
Firstly, it's free, though they happily accept donations. You can while away a good few hours here and they have various activities available for children. I went specifically to see the Valleys exhibition, thoroughly enjoyed it! Here are a few photos, plus one of Tom Jones which was a winner of Portrait Artist of the Year.
This is a great historical museum! Kids will love seeing all the natural history exhibits, including dinosaurs, rocks, and crystals. There's so much to explore, and the museum is quite large - we easily spent 3-4 hours there. It's convenient that they also have a shop, restaurants, and restrooms on-site.
Amazing beautifully decorated Museum. We came on a Saturday and didn't need to prebook at all. Completely free to go in and we made a donation to visit the Selfie Gallery where we saw 2 pieces of Vincent Van Gogh art work. Staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Disabled and child friendly too. Well worth a visit.
I thought there would be a bit more history about Wales like the Scottish national museum has. It's just Natural museum with stuffed animals and mineral stones and dinosaurs. It's not a bad museum, just not what I was expecting from it. Like even if I have to pay, I'd rather go to a zoo instead. Why isn't it called Natural museum of Cardiff? I wanna know!
Beautifully arranged collections of fossils and animals, rocks, insects. The rainbow rocks displaying is amazing People here are all very nice and the selfie exposition was very well done. 100% would recommend!
