Explore life in the countryside at this museum, historic farmhouse and working farm. In the museum, learn about the land, people and ways of working that have shaped Scotland's rural history, and discover Scotland's largest collection of tractors, combine harvesters and other farming machinery. Just a short walk or tractor-trailer ride from the museum is the farm, home to cows, pigs, sheep, hens and horses. Meet the animals, then visit the Georgian farmhouse with rooms decorated as they would have been in the 1950s. Round off your day with a visit to the shop and cafe, or bring a picnic to enjoy in the outdoor play park and picnic area.
What a great place! We visited with our little one. The exhibition were fantastic and full of stories and history. The farm part is awesome. The tractor ride was fun for the little one. Otherwise, it is about a 10-15minute walk from the museum along a track. There is also a great outdoor play area and we were lucky enough to have good weather so it was well enjoyed! The cafe there served huge portions and reasonably priced with highchairs and good changing facilities.
Good place for wee one to learn a bit of history in the farm at the older day. After rummaging the museum you can ride the tractor to the farm. But best walk to the farm and then ride the the tractor back. Lots of miniature tools on display. If these are make into souvenir, it can be an interesting attraction. The canteen look at bit too small, with not enough table.
Went here with the family over Easter. Loved it, very educative for my daughter. Also the ride from the building to the farm was smooth. We saw a horse, pigs, and cows. Good learning experience. Wear wellies and take an umbrella along!
A lovely wee morning out with my 18 month old daughter. She's perhaps a bit young yet to take it all in, but the tractor trip up to the working farm was a treat for her.
For PS10 for the year, this place is definitely worth a visit, so much history about farming and agriculture, a nice walk about, and all the staff were polite, friendly and very helpful.
Really lovely museum! A group of us went with kids ranging from 10 months to 11 years. There is a really great play park that also has a tractor & picnic benches. We brought our own lunch and ate there, but inside the museum there was also a cafe that looked pretty popular. The museum itself isn't too big & there are different parts for the kids to interact with, but to be honest we all lived there tractor ride & the farm the best! The tractor picks you up in a trailer to transport you up the road to the farm where you can see pigs, hens, cows & horses. When we went there were quite a few baby animals to see. Up at the farm there is an old house with original furnishings, the room lived in by a prisoner of war that worked there for a time, and a wooden vow that the kids can 'milk'!
